- Tervetuloa, Lapta, Northern Cyprus. For the sheer volume of food, the host, the atmosphere and the fact you never just leave with a full belly but usually a gift from the host as well! Always treated like a long-lost relative.
- Kilberry Inn, Kilberry nr Tarbert, Argyll, Scotland. A Michelin starred restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Gorgeous food in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Always treated like an old friend.
- The Witchery by the Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland. Everything you expect it to be (gothic, cosy, welcoming, delicious and expensive) and a little bit more.
- The Abbey Bell, Bellapais, Northern Cyprus. Fantastic view, amazing food and a waiter that identify which area of England you are from and try and speak with you in local slang. (He must have thought I was cockney as I got 'nice mince pies'.
- The Ardanaiseig, nr Kilchrenan, Argyll, Scotland. Intimate, ornate, romantic, with odd paintings and impeccable service. And anywhere that serves 7 courses including a pre-dessert is good with me. Just not on the mussel chowder night.
How strange that all my favourite restaurants are in either Scotland or Northern Cyprus. Perhaps I should travel more widely???
